What should I read next?

4 Nov

The past few weeks have been spent devouring all the literature I own. It’s been fantastic. I haven’t read like this since I was in high school and I used to sneak off to a quiet spot to enjoy a good story instead of swooning over the troglodytes known as adolescent boys intent on impressing the girls.

Unfortunately, I’ve been going through everything at such a rate that I have now run out and it’s too soon to re-read any of my favourites. Some planning might have been a good idea here.

Of course, the first thing I did once I realised what had happened was toddle off to What Should I Read Next? A wonderful idea but not exceedingly helpful I’m afraid since most of the suggestions that come up are other books that I already own. After that failed to work for me, I toddled off to Amazon and spent a couple of hours going through tags and recommendations and all those things and…I’m still stumped.

So, at the end of this exercise I now turn to my little corner of the internet and ask for some suggestions from you lot.

Give me a list of your favourite books that you’ve read. It doesn’t have to be recent reads either and they can be about anything. Well, almost anything. There are some books I won’t read and those consist of drama filled tales that will have me wanting to slit my wrists. These are books such as My Sisters Keeper. Real life is full of enough drama thanks, I don’t want to spend relaxation time reading about it.

Okay…GO!

Please?

Seriously, it’s horrible not having anything to read.

P.S. The picture above is not a full indication of my collection. Don’t let it send you on the wrong path young Jedi. ;)

I feel that anything I will recommend will sound snobby cos I am such a book and movie snob. I am the fussiest consumer of books and movies in the world. I think there are about 5 of each I think are good. Have you read The Collector by John Fowles? It is excellent but freaky and disturbing.

Wow… I was so confused by the new look – I thought I was at the wrong place. I like it though.

Have you read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (sp?) or The Life of Pi by Yann Martel?

6k – Note made. On it.

Po – Ha. Snobbery is okay darling. Haven’t read the collector so it’s been added to my list :) Fanks!

    Ches – Shotto dude. *bow*

Tamara – The Book Thief has actually been something I’ve been meaning to read for ages (but I’ve clearly been forgetting about it) so that’ll be awesome. I’ll check out the Life of Pi as well. Thanks!

You’re all so delightfully helpful :)

I read a cool story about The Book Thief on Dear Reader’s blog (I am not obsessed or anything!). Apparently she got a brick through her window at some robots, and all she saw was a hand grpoing into her back seat and grabbing something before she drove off and he had to let go. When she reported it to the police she was trying to remember what it was he stole, and it was… The Book Thief. Oh the irony.

Terry PRatchett… I TOTALLY LOVE his books.. Funny & bizarre with a hint of sex when you aren’t looking.

    LOL!

B – Dude, I actually have every single Pratchett there is. I can’t get any more :( The Pratchett books take up the coveted shell in the cupboard. Followed by Koontz.

    I’ve uh…watched those yeah *cough*
The Boyf was not impressed with the Colour of Magic when he realised how long it was though :P

Scarpetta are the Cornwell books yeah? I think I’ve read one because my dad reads them but I haven’t gone through the whole series. As I recall they are deliciously devilish.

I do adore Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and I’ve read them many times.
I also like Patricia Cornwell and the always reliable Douglas Adams.
Ooh and Terry Pratchett too of course!
Hhmmm… its a long time since I read a new author!
