The earth moved

29 Sep

Last night, the bed broke.

I’m not exaggerating. It actually broke.

One minute I was lying there fast asleep and dreaming of fields of cupcakes, when all of a sudden a crack wakes me up and I’m suddenly moving.

It wasn’t exactly the most pleasant surprise at 2 a.m.

And it’s not the first time the bed has done something like this either. I’ve given up keeping count of the times the bed has had to be hastily reconstructed after making life difficult. It shouldn’t surprise me either. Whilst the bed is a very pretty and a massive sleigh thing that I love, the construction of the actual mattress holding part is so kak I can’t believe they can sell it like that. Lesson learned: check how the entire thing is made and is going to be set up in your bedroom.

Thankfully after the last time it happened the Boyf gave his word that he’d stop trying to rebuild the bed with slip proof feet and wedges and whatever the hell else he tried. In other words, the mattress is now on the floor until we can get my dad’s tools in here to add some more support to the entirely stupid design of the bed. And have you ever tried moving heavy furniture around quietly? We didn’t exactly want to bang things around and wake the neighbours but every time you try and move a piece quietly, it will hit a wall and fall on your toe out of pure bloody mindedness.

It just disappoints me that sex was not involved in this story and it was so utterly mundane.

Also.

I watched District 9. Now I’m sorry guys but I really found it slow and just a tad predictable with all sorts of little holes. I will say that the CG was well done and the Prawns looked fantastic and all of that…but overall I think it was a wholly mediocre and average film that was overrated due to national pride (and national shame – again, thanks apartheid).

I enjoyed District 9, but I probably have screwy taste. I don’t thiiiink I felt obligated to like it, cos Saffa actting usually makes me want to hurl, but maybe I have been gone too long and homesickness has made me blind. I did think the theme was a little blatant, but I still really really enjoyed it.

I didn’t find the situation described in the post the least bit funny.

    “…sex was not involved…”

    Ja. Right.

They just don’t make beds like they used to! But then again, I guess they never were made to take the strain of a woman packing her bags for a holiday…

Sucks that pretty beds are not always functional – sounds like a plan to fix it good and proper rather than make do.

I did not at all see District 9 as just another apartheid related movie – it is a great depiction of segregation, manipulation and distrust of the unknown which is applicable to practically every country and culture historically and current.

Po – Nort, you’re not screwy. Lots of people enjoyed it and that’s like totally cool man, I just wasn’t one of them.

    Craig – Smart Ass.

Barb – Hmm. Unfortunately because it is so closely linked to our history and mirrors it in such detail, I can’t possibly detach and look at it in the spirit of being applicable anywhere in the world. That’s just me though.
