That’s what a bunch of people would love you to believe for various reasons right now.
I don’t really want to talk about all of that though because, well, the rest of South Africa will be doing plenty of bitching/celebrating and neither camp needs another member. Especially since most of them are all “now you’ve got to vote or else we’re all fucked”. I’m not big on voting. And the reasons why are three fold.
1. It doesn’t make sense to me that you have to ‘register’ to vote. In my mind, anyone with a South African ID and current citizenship should be able to rock up and vote to their hearts content. It’s just not a kieff practice in my mind.
2. I’m not big into politics and there’s not really any party running that appeals to little old me. If I’m not really feeling these okes, I’m not gonna use my democratically given voice to vote for them now am I? And unlike some people around here, I’m not going to ‘vote for anyone but the ANC to save the world’ or whatever.
3. I’m like totally lazy.
So there’s all of that. That’s all I’m going to be saying about it for, like, ever. Until of course something pisses me off. And then some smartass goes “oh well you didn’t vote so you can’t complain”. Um yeah. Okay. Whatever. I’ll tell you why I actually can complain. This democracy thing you’re really fond of that’s making you push the voting agenda…gives me the right to complain. It makes no sense for you to actually say that. I don’t get it.
Anyway, I was going somewhere fun with this.
Oh yeah. The South African Blog Awards 2009. It was an abortion.
6000 won absolutely none of the awards he was nominated for. Neither did P0.
That really was the scope of my interest in the awards.
Seth over @ 2oceansvibe walked away with like…everything. I think it was his clever marketing campaign which involved spamming people with his newsletter saying that if people didn’t vote then 2oceansvibe would cease to exist.
Seth call me, I have to talk to you about something bru. Or…you’ll probably hear from me soon. Sex on the beach? Yeah great. Loving it.
Hopefully next year will over some diversity and Chris will have taken my criticism into account and have a better time organising next year. Unless he doesn’t want to.
Happy Monday.
